According to the Florida Department of Elections, as of March 31, 2022 the state wide party affiliation is:
Republican Party of Florida | Florida Democratic Party | Minor Party | No Party Affiliation | Totals |
5,145,983.00 | 5,034,448.00 | 256,560.00 | 3,871,336.00 | 14,308,327.00 |
36.0% | 35.2% | 1.8% | 27.1% | 100% |
Considering the No Party Affiliation is 27.1% and the Minor Parties are 1.8%, let’s compare difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties, combined together is 50.5% to 49.4%. This is a 1.1% difference.
In Florida the Republican Governor rejected the State’s Legislators to submit his own Congressional map for them to approve, which they did.
Total Congressional Districts in Florida | Republican Congressional Districts | Democratic Congressional Districts |
28 | 20 | 8 |
With the difference between the Republicans and Democrats being 1.1%, one could reasonably assume a fair distribution of congressional districts to be equal or, at most, one district different. Even though the difference is near 1% the Republican have majority in 71.4% of the districts.
If at any point the government no longer represents the majority of the people, can one honestly say it is a democracy?
